Go on scavenger hunt for prizes at Seattle Center

The annual Emerald City Search, a kind of scavenger hunt around Seattle, kicks off the 10-day game Saturday.

This year, organizers are offering a pared down, hourlong version of the hunt: Emerald City Search, Scramble Edition on the Seattle Center campus. The one-day program is part of the Next Fifty campaign celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Seattle World’s Fair.

Here’s how the slimmed-down game works. The Scramble starts promptly at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Seattle Center. Players can check-in alone or as teams. Then everyone gets a passport that reveals clues. Solve each clue as you go around the Seattle Center grounds and get your passport stamped. Continue until all 10 clues are solved and the passport is complete.

Each player leaves with a prize. The team or player with the most correct answers in the fastest time wins the grand prize: two platinum passes to Bumbershoot, the Seattle Center’s Memorial Day Weekend music festival.

Both the Scramble Edition and the full 10-day search are free.

Catch the fun, 2 p.m. Saturday, Seattle Center Foundation Tent, at the northeast corner of W. Thomas St. and Third Ave. N.

You also can learn about the 10-day search, which leads to clues all over the Seattle. Clues are released online at 6 a.m. daily until a hidden medallion is found. The person who finds the medallion also receives up to $9,000 worth of other prizes.
