Help your neighbors: Volunteer at Habitat for Humanity stores

1. Days of Caring.

Lend a hand stocking and sorting shelves to help the less fortunate.

Habitat for Humanity of Snohomish County’s Days of Caring event is Sept. 28-29.

The nonprofit organization’s Everett and Lynnwood stores need volunteers to help accept donations and sort, price and sell them. Multiple shifts — starting at 9:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. — need to be filled. Each shift is about 3½ to 4½ hours.

Sign up at www.getconnected.uwsc.org or call 425-405-7156.

Profits from selling building materials, furniture and appliances at the stores help low-income families find affordable homes.

2. Baby questions.

Can baby diapers work on dogs? Does baby formula need to be refrigerated?

A SafeWise study looks at the baby questions people Google the most in each state. Questions range from the practical to the bizarre.

The most asked question on Google in Washington? How to baby-proof a home.

Over the past five years, 68 percent of all baby-related searches were about celebrity babies or baby-related pop culture.

Other bizarre questions asked include “Can baby formula be used to make drugs?” and “Will breast milk cure pink eye?”

3. Kitchen overhaul.

Don’t settle for a kitchen that doesn’t meet your needs.

A free Kitchen Design Seminar is scheduled for 7 p.m. Oct. 4 at Judd & Black Appliance, 3001 Hewitt Ave., Everett. Learn about the benefits of working with contractors, design rules-of-thumb for kitchen layouts, solutions you may not have considered, and tips on the latest appliance trends.

Reservations required. Call 425-320-4786 or go to www.homerunsolutions.net/kitchen-design-seminar.
