7 p.m. Sept. 28, Mill Creek U Bookstore

Formerly with the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, Raley is a local sportswriter whose new book “How Seattle Became a Big League Sports Town” covers Seattle’s sports history, heroes and scandal-makers — just in time for football fever. Learn from someone who saw it all happen how Seattle evolved from an isolated outpost to a mecca for internationally-known athletes and fans. University Bookstore at Mill Creek Town Center is located at 15311 Main St.

Tom Angleberger

7 p.m. Sept. 30, Third Place Books

“McToad Mows Tiny Island” is the new book from master children’s storyteller Tom Angleberger and celebrated illustrator John Hendrix. The playful narrative treasures the journey over the destination, with lots of planes, trains and automobiles.

Kevin Craft

6 p.m. Oct. 1, Hibulb Center

An Everett Community College creative writing instructor, Craft is the author of the book “Solar Prominence” and is a winner of the Gorsline Prize from Cloudbank Books. His poems, reviews and essays have appeared in such publications as Poetry, AGNI, Verse, Alaska Quarterly Review, The Stranger and Poetry Northwest. He will read from his work as part of the First Thursday Poetry Program at the Tulalip Tribes’ Hibulb Cultural Center, 6410 23rd Ave NE, Tulalip. At 7 p.m., audience members will be encouraged to share their original poetry.

Basics of Historical Research

9 a.m. to noon Oct. 10, Floyd Norgaard Cultural Center

This free workshop for authors, teachers, students, genealogists, historians is presented by an archivist with the regional office of the state archives. 7:30 p.m. Oct. 28, Zech Hall, WICA
