I follow a little bit of everything on Twitter: news, opinion, science, entertainment, friends. But some of the best tweets I see every day come from people I follow just because they’re good for a laugh. Here are five that I enjoy:
FakeAPStylebook: A spoof of the Associated Press style guide, the manual used by most newspapers. Recent gems: “Subjects and verbs should always agree, even if they just agree to disagree,” and “Always refer to the character as ‘the Doctor,’ not ‘Doctor Who.’ You don’t want to get letters from those people.”
FakeeEtiquette: Providing etiquette advice for the digital age of which Emily Post probably would not approve. Most recent tweet is my current favorite: “It is impolite to send business e-mails that do not include ways to monetize your freemium microcontent through netsourcing.”
Zombiehorde: Zombie fans will appreciate this one, written from the perspective of a roving band of the undead. Escapades include the following: “This bus tour is pretty fun. We’re posing as the Grateful Dead, now, which gets us lots of willing audiences that’re too hazy to run fast.”
HalfPintIngalls: If books are more your thing, you’ll be pleased to find Laura Ingalls Wilder tweeting from the 19th century, when life was harder. For instance: “Remind me not to sleep in my corset again. I dreamt I was a half-pint half-full of sausage.”
TweetsofOld: Exemplifying the idea that truth is stranger than fiction, TweetsofOld quotes snippets from old newspapers. For instance: “Croquet rages with unabated vigor. NY1875.” Also: “A slice of onion, toasted and tied on hot outside the ear, is a good remedy for earache in children. NY1876.”
