Help out in Mukilteo: The Mukilteo Community Garden is looking for volunteers to help at the new garden’s second major work party at 9 a.m. Saturday.

Volunteers will be building raised vegetable beds as part of the first phase of a one-acre community garden at 4416 76th St. SW, Mukilteo. Bring your own gloves and tools such as hammers and shovels, if possible. Papa Murphy’s Pizza will provide lunch.

Organizers, including Snohomish County master gardeners, plan to use the garden to educate the public and grow food for the Mukilteo Food Bank in addition to offering garden plots for community use. People interested in signing up for a place on the garden-space waiting list can call city of Mukilteo executive assistant Shirley Engdahl at 425-263-8018.

The Mukilteo Community Garden will sponsor its first Growing Groceries seminar from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the Mukilteo Library, 4675 Harbour Point Blvd., Mukilteo. There will be demonstrations and refreshments.

See www.mukilteogarden.org for more information.

Save water: Next week, the Washington State University Snohomish County Extension is offering two classes to help gardeners conserve and manage water. Both will be indoors at McCollum Park, 600 128th St. SE, Everett. Both classes will allow two people sharing materials to pay lower fees.

Drip irrigation: Learn how to inexpensively plan, purchase and install a drip irrigation system with Snohomish County master gardener Jeff Thompson from 9 a.m. to noon and again from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. Fees are $35 per person or $55 for two people sharing materials.

Rain gardens: Learn how to fit a rain garden into your landscape that can reduce flooding and filter out pollutants and chemicals while adding beauty and value, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday. Fees are $20 per person or $35 for two people sharing materials. This class will also be offered from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. May 28 at the Everett senior center, 3025 Lombard Ave., Everett.
