“Good grief!”

Theatergoers are likely to hear that classic and other “Peanuts” expressions when they watch one of four shows at Everett Performing Arts Center Thursday through June 20, courtesy of a cast of seven local youths performing Village Theatre’s “You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown.”

The show, with musical numbers and spoken lines, will take audiences back, Village Theatre director of youth education Kati Nickerson said, to a time when children had no cell phones or computers — just baseball mitts, sisters and dogs.

“My favorite scene is ‘Baseball Game,’ ” she said. “It is entirely sung and takes us through a close baseball game and into Charlie Brown’s mind. It is an entertaining and heartfelt journey.”

Fans of the late Charles Schulz’s cartoon strip featuring Charlie Brown, Linus, Lucy and the rest of the “Peanuts” gang also will recognize scenes entitled “The Doctor Is In” and “Snoopy and the Red Baron.”

The show is part of Village Theatre Kidstage’s Summer Independent program, which requires its young participants to take charge of all the lighting, sets and costumes, choreography, stage and musical direction.

“The actors are a talented group,” Nickerson said, “and when audience looks a little deeper and realizes that it is students, mostly under 16 years old, who took it upon themselves to create the entire show … within a professional and very busy environment, they will, or should be, hopeful about the future.”
