Take a journey to Paris without leaving Everett

How would you like to take a quick trip tonight to Paris, the City of Lights?

You can avoid all the stress and the long security lines by showing up at Everett Civic Auditorium instead of Sea-Tac Airport, and letting the Everett Symphony whisk you off for “An Evening in Paris,” an evening of beautiful music.

With special guests the Everett Chorale and music director Lee Mathews, the symphony will transport you with “A Roman Carnival Overture” by Berlioz, “Requiem” by Faure and “Symphony No. 3” by Saint-Saens.

Port Gardner Bay Chamber Orchestra: Student soloists who won the 2007 Snohomish County Music Teachers Association Concerto Competition will perform Sunday with the Port Gardner Bay Chamber Orchestra at First Presbyterian Church of Everett.

Student soloists at the 3 p.m. concert include:

Felicity James, 11, violin, a student of Jan Coleman of Bothell who originally studied with the late Kent Coleman, will perform the Haydn Violin Concerto No. 2 in G.

Felicity, who is home-schooled, is the former concertmaster of Seattle Youth Symphony Orchestra’s Symphonette Orchestra and is currently concertmaster of the Debut Orchestra. She is currently singing in Seattle Opera’s production of “Pagliacci,” and also enjoys piano, gymnastics, reading and Irish step dance.

Andrew Kim, a senior at Everett High School, studies voice with Peggy Kurtz of Everett. He will perform a selection from “Pirates of Penzance.”

Andrew’s honor choir at Everett High School voted him its most inspirational member. As a district solo-ensemble winner, Andrew was selected to participate in the Washington state competition in Ellensburg. He has twice been a Snohomish County Music Teachers Association nonkeyboard scholarship recipient. Kim would like to travel back to Korea someday, having left at age 7.

Colleen McElroy, a senior at Arlington High School, will perform the Chaminade Concertino for Flute and Orchestra, Op. 107. Colleen has studied flute with Iris Ingram of Lake Stevens for 6½ years.

She has won first place in the SCMTA nonkeyboard scholarship competition five times, among many other honors. Colleen plays flute in the Arlington High School Wind Ensemble, lead alto saxophone in On Hold jazz band and has played in the Pit Orchestra for three years. She also studies violin with Amy Gudorf of Everett and is an honor student with a 3.99 GPA.

Carina Vincenti, 13, studies violin with Jan Coleman of Bothell and will perform the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto in E minor, Op. 64.

Carina is an eighth-grader at Skyview Junior High School in the Northshore School District. She has been in the Seattle Youth Symphony orchestra for several years. Besides playing the violin, Carina has been skiing since age 5 and just began snowboarding. Carina reads extensively about energy and natural conservation and studies Mandarin Chinese.

Rose Halcomb studies piano with Judy Baker of Everett and will perform the Haydn Concerto in G Major.
