Everett neighborhood tours: Historic Everett continues its series of self-guided neighborhood tours.

Tour the Lowell neighborhood on Saturday (tickets at Lowell Church, 5218 S. Second Ave.); and Port Gardner/Rucker Hill on Sept. 10 (tickets at Providence Hospital, Pacific campus, 916 Pacific Ave.).

Tickets are $12, $10 for Historic Everett members, and are available from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the day of the events. Tour hours are 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Spartina be gone: People for Puget Sound announces an upcoming volunteer event.

From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, volunteers can help remove spartina from Island County as part of the third annual Island County Dig Day.

Auction under stars: Rare flora and select garden items will be up for bids including a seedling from the infamous smelly corpse flower, nicknamed Waldo, at Volunteer Park Conservatory’s third annual “Evening Under the Stars” silent and live auction tonight.

Tickets are $35 for nonmembers and are limited. Admission includes wine, hors d’oeuvres and live music. The silent auction begins at 6:30 p.m. and the live auction at 8 p.m.

Makeover: Lennox Industries, which sells indoor air quality and fireplace products, is searching for the most uncomfortable home in North America.

The grand-prize winner will receive a home comfort and interior design makeover valued at up to $60,000. Four others will receive $1,500 gift certificate for Lennox home comfort equipment.

Participants write 200 words or less on why their home is so uncomfortable and submit photos or a brief video of the home.

Master gardening training: The Washington State University Extension is accepting applications for training in its master gardener program.

The program is taught by faculty, staff and volunteers and is more than 60 hours. Classes begin Jan. 5 and meet Thursdays and two Saturday through March 11.

For information, send a legal-sized, self-addressed stamped envelope with 60 cents postage to WSU Extension Master Gardener, 600 128th St. SE, Everett, WA 98209.

Applications must be received by Oct. 14.

Dream on: Volunteers are needed for the 18th annual Seattle Street of Dreams held through Aug. 14 at Nolan Woods in Woodinville.

Individual and group volunteers are welcome. Volunteers hosts are responsible for greeting visitors, managing traffic flow in homes and answering questions. Ten to 20 volunteers are needed for three, 4-hour shifts each day. Each host receives one complimentary pass to the 2005 Seattle Street of Dreams, valued at $17.50.
