Three big upcoming shows for the Thumb

SNOHOMISH — Many concert venues are on summer hiatus, but the Tim Noah Thumbnail Theater has scheduled three great concerts in July.

The theater is located at 1211 Fourth St. Most tickets are available at www.brownpapertickets.com. For information, call 360-568-9412.

This weekend, see the Tuttles with John Mailander in a concert of acoustic bluegrass, old time tunes, swing and folk at 7:30 p.m. July 11 at the Thumb. Tickets are $15 each.

Molly Tuttle, a rising star in the acousitc world, recently graduated from the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston. She has performed on The Grand Ole Opry stage, on radio’s Prairie Home Companion and across North America and Sweden. She’s booked at the Newport Folk Festial and she’s on the latest cover of Flatpicking Guitar Magazine.

The Tuttles have been awarded best band several times from the Northern California Bluegrass Society. The Tuttle kids, now in their teens and 20s, grew up playing music from a very young age with their father, San Francisco Bay Area bluegrass instructor Jack Tuttle. Having learned from his own father on the family farm in Illinois, Jack Tuttle is a second generation bluegrass musician.

Mailander, a fiddler and another Berklee grad, often tours with Tony Trischka, Laurie Lewis and Allison Brown.

Next up are the Gothard Sisters from Edmonds at 7:30 p.m. July 18 and 4 p.m. July 19. Tickets are $20 general or $15 for kids and seniors.

This internationally known Celtic band tours regularly, but this is the sisters’ first show at the Thumb, said Sharon Cordisco of the theater.

“We’re very excited to host them,” Cordisco said.

The Gothard Sisters will play selections from their new album. Firmly rooted in classical and folk music from a young age, Greta, Willow and Solana Gothard have each developed skills on multiple instruments.

Then, at 7:30 p.m. July 23, the Thumb welcomes the hot North Country Bluegrass Band and the Gold Heart band. Tickets are $20.

The North Country Bluegrass Band, with members from Snohomish County, is one of the premier traditional bluegrass bands from the Northwest.

Formed just a few years ago, the band has played at prominent music venues including Wintergrass and the Paramount Theater. Since then, they have continued to build their repertoire and toured throughout the United States and Canada.

Gold Heart features the Gold sisters Tori, Jocey and Shelby, who have been touring since 2005.

Gold Heart and North Country also are featured at the Darrington Bluegrass Festival the weekend before.
