Fond of fronds: It’s mid-August and that means it’s time for a Snohomish County gardening classic, The Fronderosa Frolic.

The 11th annual festival, a convergence of more than a dozen specialty nurseries and garden artists, will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Fancy Fronds Nursery in Gold Bar.

Specialty nurseries expected to attend include Cistus Nursery of Sauvie Island, Ore., specializing in Mediterranean plants and hardy tropicals; Courting Frogs of Stanwood, selling carnivorous plants; Keeping It Green Nursery of Stanwood, offering hardy orchids and choice woodland plants; and Magellanica Gardens of Olympia with hardy fuchsias.

Featured artists include vendors from around the Northwest, selling glass garden art, rustic furniture, ironwork trellises and ornaments, original concrete garden creations, games and handpainted tiles.

Other attractions include refreshments for sale and free live music.

Find Fancy Fronds at 40830 172nd St. SE, Gold Bar, off U.S. 2, east of town. See www.fancyfronds.com for directions or call 360-793-1472.

Carpooling is recommended because the road leading to the nursery is a narrow, private lane.

Delight in dahlias: The Snohomish County Dahlia Society will present its 101st annual dahlia show from 1 to 6 p.m. Aug. 21 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 22 at Floral Hall, Forest Park, 802 E. Mukilteo Blvd., Everett.

See an array of blooms and a competition of eye-catching flowers at the event, which is free and open to the public.

Call 360-659-8687 or see www.everettwa.org/parks or www.scdahlias.org for more information.

Dream on: The Whidbey Island Dream Kitchen Tour will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 21 at eight kitchens on Whidbey Island.

Tickets for $15 are on sale now at The Star Store in Langley, Linds Pharmacy in Coupeville, Eileen’s Creative Kitchenware in Oak Harbor and Sound Business Center in Freeland.

This second annual self-guided tour is presented by the Whidbey Island branch of the American Association of University Women.

Proceeds support educational projects and scholarships for the young women of Whidbey Island.

See www.aauw-whidbey island.org or call 360-914-0297 for more details.
