Weekend best bets: Holiday crafts, trees, model trains

Stuffed animal adventures: Kids can take a stuffed animal to the Mukilteo Library for a sleepover on Saturday. The toys will spend the night at the library. Then at 2 p.m. on Sunday, kids can return for stories and songs and to be reunited with their stuffed animals. Kids will get a scrapbook showing the adventures their stuffed animal had at the library. Toys can be dropped off at anytime at the library on Saturday. For ages 2-7.

DIY: Make some holiday crafts from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday at the Mukilteo Library. The library will supply the used greeting cards and calendars, along with patterns and stencils. You supply the inspiration. Anyone old enough to cut with scissors, fold and trace using stencils is welcome.

Holiday model trains: Swamp Creek &Western Railroad Association of Edmonds hosts its annual open house 10 a.m to 3 p.m. on Saturday at Edmonds Depot, 210 Railroad St., Edmonds. The model train layout features 400 feet of track that passes through miniature towns and detailed scenery. The association has been located in former baggage room at the Edmonds depot since 1977. Holiday cheer: Arlington’s Hometown Holidays is Saturday in the city’s downtown. A Santa parade begins at noon on Olympic Avenue. A tree lighting and caroling at Legion Park follow the parade. Meet Santa from 1 to 3 p.m. at the gazebo in Legion Park. Free wagon rides are from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., starting at City Hall. Enjoy the Festival of Trees from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Cascade Valley Hospital. Get more info here.

See the lights: The Lights of Christmas are shining at Warm Beach near Stanwood. More than 1 million lights are on display. In addition, the camp offers dinner theater, concerts, activities for children and warm doughnuts and cider. For more information, go here.

“A Christmas Story”: Whidbey Island Center for the Arts presents this funny Christmas classic at 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and at 2 p.m. Sundays, through Dec. 20, at the theater, 565 Camano Ave., Langley. Tickets are $22 for adults; $18 for seniors; $15 for youths; $15 for matinees. Call 800-638-7631 for more information.

Take a walk: Enjoy a guided walk at Elger Bay Preserve on Camano Island on Saturday. Meet at 9:50 a.m. at the junction of Dry Lake Road and Elger Bay Road, just north of Elger Bay Elementary School. This is a fairly level trail with one short climb. The walk is about 2.5 miles and should take about two hours. Rain or shine. No dogs, please. Get more info here.
