ENUMCLAW — Investigators say a teenage driver is being investigated for vehicular homicide after he slammed his car into a tree after leaving a bonfire east of Enumclaw, killing a passenger and badly hurting himself and three others.
The Washington State Patrol says the crash happened after 2:30 a.m. Sunday when 18-year-old Bryson Stubbles lost control of the 1990 Honda Accord, went over an embankment and hit the tree. Investigators say they believe he was impaired.
The front passenger, 18-year-old Paco Frees, was killed. Stubbles, 20-year-old Aaron Hewes and a 16-year-old girl were taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with injuries ranging from serious to life-threatening; another passenger, 18-year-old Lorenzo Dawson, was transported to Tacoma General Hospital with serious injuries.
Trooper Rick Johnson says the driver is still in the hospital, but he has been placed under arrest pending investigation of vehicular homicide and assault.
