OLYMPIA — There were 59 fire fatalities last year in Washington compared with 45 in 2008.
The state Fire Marshal Office says December was the deadliest month with 19.
The office says 17 percent of the deaths were caused by smoking and 14 percent by electrical appliances or wires, 10 percent were intentionally set or self-inflicted.
