MIAMI — An American Airlines spokesman said a flight from Miami has overshot the runway in Kingston, Jamaica, but came to a safe stop. He said there are no reports of fatalities.
Charley Wilson said all passengers are off Flight 331. It took off from Miami International Airport this evening. He said it was almost a full flight. He said normally a flight carries 140 passengers plus the crew.
He said more information was not available.
FAA spokeswoman Laura Brown said the plane was a Boeing 737.
Kingston Policeman O’Neil Hinds at police headquarters said officers at the scene report the plane ran off the end of the runway.
He said people were taken to hospital. He didn’t know how many or anything about injuries. He said the plane was damaged but did not break apart.
Shaken passenger Naomi Palmer told the Jamaica Observer though that “the plane crashed and broke almost in front of me.”
Palmer said she was feeling some pain and was being supported by a friend on the outside of the arrival area.
