CBS says the voice of Walter Cronkite will continue to be heard announcing the “CBS Evening News with Katie Couric.”
Cronkite recorded the introduction to the newscast he anchored for nearly two decades in 2006, when Couric became anchor.
Immediately following his death Friday at age 92, the network had planned to retire the recording but reconsidered. Members of Cronkite’s family gave their blessing to the decision to continue using his voice, said CBS News spokesman Jeff Ballabon.

“About two months ago I started feeling a little lump in my throat,” Yauch said in his video message on the site. “I started to think I should talk to my doctor … and he sent me to a specialist, and they did tests, and I actually have a form of cancer.”
Yauch, 43, said he will likely undergo surgery next week, followed up by radiation.
Chris Brown on Monday publicly apologized for the beating of Rihanna, saying in a two-minute video that he’s still seeking help.
Brown released the video on his Web site, apologizing to fans and saying he is sad and ashamed of his conduct.
Brown was arrested Feb. 8, hours after he fought with his then-girlfriend in a rented sports car after a pre-Grammy party. According to a police affidavit, Brown tried to push the 21-year-old Barbados-born singer from the car and repeatedly hit her and choked her.
He was later charged with assault likely to cause great bodily harm and making criminal threats. He pleaded guilty to felony assault last month and faces sentencing Aug. 5. He is slated to serve five years of probation and perform six months of community labor.
