USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN — All seven crew members were rescued from a crash of a Navy helicopter off the coast of Southern California on Sunday and returned safely to the USS Abraham Lincoln with minor injuries, the Navy reported Tuesday.
The helicopter crashed about 9 p.m. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
The HH-60H Seahawk helicopter is assigned to the “Golden Falcons” Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron 2, stationed at Naval Air Station North Island, Calif. It was providing support for the Abraham Lincoln strike group at the time of the crash, the Navy said.
The Nimitz-class aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln, which is based in Everett, is about 100 miles from San Diego participating in the Composite Training Unit Exercise, the Navy said.
The Lincoln and other ships in its strike group are completing qualifications in preparation to deploy overseas early next year, the Navy said.
