MILL CREEK – Neighbors who tried to get a speeding driver to slow down on a residential street Sunday encountered a man who fired a pistol out the open sunroof of his car.
The shot went into the air, and nobody was injured, Snohomish County sheriff’s deputies said Monday.
The neighbors got the license number of the car, and deputies arrested Chad David Briggs, 26, of Bothell for investigation of drive-by shooting.
Briggs appeared Monday in Everett District Court, and Judge Thomas Kelly set bail at $10,000.
According to court documents, a resident who lives on 26th Avenue SE yelled at a speeder to slow down. The car went down a dead-end road, turned around and returned at a high rate of speed, court documents say.
The shot was fired when one neighbor took a couple of steps into the street, and the speeding car stopped briefly. Briggs told deputies he fired the gun as a warning shot, documents say.
Stanwood: Houses shot at from passing car
At least two houses and one apartment were shot by a passing vehicle Monday.
Investigators believe the suspect was driving north through the Stanwood area firing from the street about 12:19 a.m. One bullet broke a window and others hit outer walls.
Residents were home. No one was hurt, and there were no reports of any bullets nearly striking anyone.
A house was hit in the 18800 block of 32nd Avenue NW and the 3500 block of 159th Place NW and an apartment building in the 27500 block of Pioneer Highway.
“We don’t believe anyone was targeted. We believe it was just random,” Snohomish County sheriff’s deputy Rich Niebusch said Monday.
Police found fragments of bullets in exterior walls. No suspect or vehicle descriptions were available. Anyone with information about the shootings is asked to call the sheriff’s tip line at 425-388-3845.
Lynnwood: Man faces felony assault charges
A Seattle man is facing felony assault charges after fighting with court officers and police Monday during an attempt to escape from Lynnwood Municipal Court and the city jail.
The man, 22, was arrested Saturday for investigation of having drug paraphernalia and a dangerous weapon. He reportedly fought with officers during his arrest and also was booked for resisting arrest and obstructing a law enforcement officer.
He was in court Monday for a bail hearing. The man reportedly became upset over the bail amount and tried to leave the court, Lynnwood detective Beth Post said. He assaulted a custody officer during the escape attempt, she said.
Officers took him to the jail where he made a second escape attempt. He broke away from officers while they tried to put him in a cell, Post said.
Officers were finally able to restrain the man. He was later booked into the Snohomish County Jail for investigation of three counts of third-degree assault.
