VERLOT – Rescue crews called in a helicopter Sunday night to evacuate a man who fell down Green Giant Buttress, a popular rock climbing route on Liberty Mountain east of Granite Falls.
The man’s climbing partner used a global positioning system to give rescue crews an exact location of the fall, Snohomish County sheriff’s Lt. Rodney Rochon said.
The fall was reported around 7 p.m. and rescuers summoned a helicopter from Naval Station Whidbey Island, Rochon said. The helicopter crew hoisted the hurt climber, 30, and took him directly to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
Sheriff’s deputies and Snohomish County Search and Rescue volunteers also participated in the rescue effort which lasted about three hours.
