Singer brings in donations for food bank
Monroe High School graduate and country music singer Dakota Neuman held a holiday concert fundraiser Dec. 5 to benefit the Sky Valley Food Bank. The event brought in 114 pounds of food and $1,050.
Lynnwood families Shop with a Cop
The Lynnwood Police Department hosted its annual Shop with a Cop event Dec. 10 at the Lynnwood Fred Meyer. This year’s event benefited 21 mothers and 36 children from YWCA’s Pathways for Women. Lynnwood Police officers and the families ate dinner and shopped together to celebrate the season.
This event was made possible with funding provided by Lynnwood Fred Meyer, the Lynnwood Police Officers Association, and individual donations received throughout the year and during the event. More than 30 officers and public safety volunteers donated their time.
Several area police departments hold similar events this time of year (read more about the Monroe Police Department’s event in today’s Herald).
Everett police held their Heroes and Helpers event Dec. 16 at the Everett Target store, helping over 65 Snohomish County children. The event include pictures with Santa, pizza and cookies along with shopping. The Everett event is sponsored by the Everett Police Officers Association, the Everett Police Department, and Everett Target. Participation and donations also came from the Mill Creek Police Department, Snohomish County Corrections Deputies, Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office, Washington State Patrol, civilian employees, and family members of local police officers.
Santa Run brings in festive haul
For the 25th annual Santa Run, Arlington firefighters, their families and friends escorted Santa through Arlington neighborhoods on a decorated fire engine for 10 evenings and gathered 7,531 pounds of food and $2,014 in cash for the Arlington Food Bank.
“Thanks for everyone’s help,” said Capt. Dave Kraski, who coordinated the program this year.
Kids stuff the Club for food bank
Kids from the Monroe Boys and Girls Club collected boxes of stuffing for the Sky Valley Food Bank. On Dec. 18, with staff, they delivered 176 boxes of stuffing to the food bank.
“It was so much fun and rewarding to watch these kids come into the Club with bags full of stuffing. They all knew of the impact that they were having too,” said Jeff Rasmussen, unit director of the Monroe Boys and Girls Club.
Monroe Walmart employees also pitched in.
