MUKILTEO — Ferry traffic was disrupted for over an hour shortly after 6 a.m. Tuesday after a woman in a motorhome threatened to drive off the dock, authorities said.
Mukilteo police said an Everett woman, 44, bypassed the Mukilteo ticket booth and parked in a ferry holding lane. A ferry worker called 911 and said the woman was causing a disturbance.
The woman appeared to be under the influence of drugs and threatened officers, according to police. She also stated she would drive off the dock.
The 6:30 a.m. sailing from Mukilteo to Clinton was canceled. The holding lanes were cleared of vehicles.
Officers continued trying to de-escalate the situation and brought in a negotiator. Agencies assisting included Arlington and Mill Creek police and the Washington State Patrol.
After attempting communication for over an hour, officers reportedly shot pepper-ball rounds through an open window. The woman came out and was taken into custody without further issue. She was evaluated and transported to the hospital for a mental health evaluation. Nobody was injured.
The woman was booked into the Snohomish County Jail for investigation of DUI, disorderly conduct, ignition interlock violation and resisting arrest, said Mukilteo police spokesperson Nathan Fabia.
“By 8 o’clock, service had returned to normal,” said Ian Sterling, a spokesperson for Washington State Ferries.
