Ferry passengers don’t yet know if they will be able to get a bite to eat on Thursday, but they know the schedules for New Year’s Day.
Patricia Patterson, a spokeswoman for Washington State Ferries, said a proposal to continue food sales on the system’s ferries is still under consideration. She said the matter could be resolved today.
Passengers gearing up for New Year’s Day will find only three routes operating on a holiday schedule on Thursday: Seattle-Bainbridge Island, Edmonds-Kingston, and Mukilteo-Clinton.
All other routes will be on regular weekday schedules, which switched from fall to winter schedules on Sunday.
Wednesday schedules will not be affected by the holiday.
Other holiday adjustments include providing an extra run today from Anacortes to Lopez, Shaw and Orcas islands at 3:10 p.m., and from Anacortes to Lopez Island and Friday Harbor at 6:25 p.m.
Effective Dec. 31, Sodexho USA will end its contract to provide food service on the ferry system, including the Mukilteo-Clinton and Edmonds-Kingston runs.
Officials are working on a deal to allow Sodexho to continue temporary service until a new concessionaire is selected. The earliest Washington State Ferries could get a new food vendor in place is April 1.
