A new Arlington police substation opening in Smokey Point will be at 3131 Smokey Point Drive, Unit 15.
City staff expected to get the keys Friday morning.
It will take about a week to get the substation running, officials said. For now, the space is only for officer use.
The police department hopes to add front desk staffing and public office hours within the coming weeks.
WSU pledges continued Oso support: Washington State University President Elson Floyd promised ongoing financial and volunteer support for Oso, Darrington and Arlington as the communities work to recover after the March 22 Oso mudslide that killed 43 people and shut down Highway 530 between Arlington and Darrington.
At a luncheon Thursday afternoon in the Darrington Community Center, local leaders honored WSU student interns who have worked in the Stillaguamish Valley this summer. They also talked about planned WSU fundraising efforts and volunteer work days geared toward supporting the communities this fall.
“This is not a flash in the pan,” Floyd said. “It’s a long-term commitment.”
