EVERETT — The National Weather Service in Seattle has issued a high wind warning for all of western Washington from 2-11 p.m. Sunday.
Southeast winds of 20-30 miles per hour, with gusts reaching 45 mph, are expected early in the afternoon throughout Snohomish County and the central Puget Sound lowlands south to Pierce County.
Later, the winds will shift to the south and increase to 30-45 mph with gusts of up to 70 mph.
Similar winds will be felt in the San Juan Islands, western Skagit and Whatcom counties and the areas around Admiralty Inlet, with south winds of 20-40 mph and gusts reaching 70 mph.
The winds are expected gradually diminish into the late evening.
Widespread power outages and downed trees are likely, and some property damage is also possible, the service reported.
Ready.gov advises building an emergency kit, make a family communications plan, elevate items in basements that might flood, and remove dead or rotting trees that could fall and cause injury or property damage. More information is online at http://1.usa.gov/1QPJaiB.
