SEATTLE — A Seattle man who killed his girlfriend and their 13-week-old baby girl has been sentenced to life in prison without parole.
Prosecutors say 31-year-old Daniel Hicks threw little Emma Morgan against a wall before shooting her and 28-year-old Jennifer Morgan just before Christmas 2009.
Hicks pleaded guilty earlier this month in King County Superior Court to two counts of aggravated first-degree murder. He was sentenced Friday. The Seattle Times says prosecutors decided not to seek the death penalty — the only other punishment in Washington for aggravated murder — because of Hicks’ history of mental illness.
Charging documents say Hicks had been unhappy with his girlfriend’s pregnancy and the fact that the child was a girl.
