At least 28 Mariner High School students are being treated at Providence Everett Medical Center for headaches, coughing and throat irritation after a substance believed to be pepper spray spread through the school’s ventilation system this morning, officials said.
Students were evacuated to Goddard Stadium on the campus south of Everett for nearly two hours in cold, windy weather. Roughly 1,700 students attend the campus, one of two large high schools in the Mukilteo School District.
School was canceled about 45 minutes early and will resume Thursday morning.
An open house and all extracurricular activities scheduled for tonight have been cancelled.
