SEATAC – A longtime Boeing worker was shot to death Friday morning in a carjacking at an intersection near Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, investigators said.
Witnesses said they saw the victim’s body pushed from the black Ford Mustang he had been driving, then the carjacker sped off in the car.
Authorities identified the man killed as 62-year-old Ron Whitehead of SeaTac.
“This is an unusual carjacking,” said Sgt. John Urquhart, spokesman for the King County Sheriff’s Office. “Usually when we get called, the victim is outside the car – jerked out of the car and the suspect jumps in the car. (The carjacker) was already in the car with the victim when this homicide occurred.”
Investigators were looking for a black 2000 Ford Mustang with Washington plates 306 LFC.

Longview: Hit-and-run victim follows suspect
The victim of a hit-and-run accident Wednesday night followed the suspect pickup until the driver parked it, then kept her eyes on him until police arrived, Longview police said. Candace Roach, 29, of Kalama, pointed to a man standing on the sidewalk and said, “That’s him!” Police said a 32-year-old Kelso man was swaying and having difficulty standing. The nearby pickup had a flat tire and had paint scratches that matched the woman’s damaged vehicle, police said. Roach told police the pickup hit her vehicle. As she came out of a 360-degree spin, she noticed the pickup leaving the scene and followed it. The suspect was booked on suspicion of vehicular assault, driving while intoxicated and hit-and-run.

Tacoma: Boy thought to be missing wasn’t
It turns out Maai Hinton Jr., the 4-year-old Tacoma boy whose face was plastered across television news programs after he was reported missing Thursday afternoon, was OK the entire time. But for almost four hours, police search teams scoured the area near his home looking for the boy. Tacoma police said Maai and his two brothers, ages 1 and 6, were playing with friends in a neighbor’s front yard. At 3 p.m., the three left for their home. When Maai’s brothers showed up without him, his parents called the police. Meanwhile, Maai’s aunt had been driving in the neighborhood and saw the boy sitting on a curb, so she picked him up and took him to her house. By 7:30 p.m., Maai was back home with his parents.

Yakima: Suspect gives up hostage, surrenders
A police chase following an undercover drug bust ended Thursday when a suspected dealer released the woman he’d taken hostage and surrendered. The chase began around 2:40 p.m. at a convenience store where undercover officers had arranged to buy a pound of methampetamine from a 30-year-old man. He became nervous during the deal, drew a gun and fired at two agents from the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, Police Chief Sam Granato said. During a chase, the man leaned out of his car and fired shots, hitting at least three patrol cars. The man ran inside another convenience store where a clerk was working, but later released the woman unharmed. The man agreed to surrender if he could talk to his wife, Granato said.
