The 93rd annual Stillaguamish Valley pioneer picnic will be at 12:30 p.m. Sunday at Stillaguamish Valley Pioneer Hall, 20722 67th Ave. NE.

Bring a favorite table dish and plates and silverware. Registration begins at 10:30 a.m.

Edmonds

Event to benefit Alzheimer’s group

Edmonds Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center will host a festival benefiting the Alzheimer’s Association from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at 21008 76th Ave. W. There will be a car wash, food, garage and bake sales, face painting for kids, balloons and a dunk tank.

Everett

Church helps kids go back to school

New Beginnings Church will have its second annual back-to-school community outreach from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Clark Park, 2400 Lombard Ave.

The church will provide free haircuts and school supplies for kids heading back to class, along with music, games, face painting and food.

Artist wanted for park project

The Everett Cultural Commission is seeking an artist to design eight metal art panels to be incorporated into four newly designed river-rock markers at Garfield Park.

As part of a neighborhood parks grant program, Starbucks Coffee Co. has donated money for an artist to work with area schoolchildren to design and create an art project for the park upgrade.

The Everett Cultural Commission will help manage the project, along with representatives of the Riverside Neighborhood Association and the Everett Parks and Recreation Department.

Island County

Camano’s top cop guest speaker

The Island County Sheriff’s Office’s Camano precinct commander,Lt. Chris Ellis, will be the guest speaker at County Commissioner Bill Byrd’s monthly town hall meeting from 7 to 9 tonight at the Camano Center, 141 N. East Camano Drive.

Ellis will talk about law enforcement issues on Camano Island, as well as how residents can get involved in neighborhood watch and citizen patrol programs.

Lake Stevens

Choir will wash cars for donations

The Lake Stevens High School Choir Parent Association plans a car wash from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Aug. 27 at Les Schwab, 923 Vernon Road.

Members of the jazz choir will wash vehicles for donations. The money will be used to purchase the group’s formalwear and pay travel costs.

Marysville

Library hosts two story times today

The Marysville Public Library will host two story times today, a “Tickly Toddle” session for youngsters and an evening family presentation.

Youngsters 13 to 23 months old and an adult caregiver are invited to a story time filled with movement, word play and rhythm-and-rhyme fun at 10:30 a.m. at the library, 6120 Grove St. Bring one of your child’s favorite toys.

The evening program begins at 7 p.m. with stories and songs for families to enjoy together.

Library group seeks members

New members are welcome to join the Friends of the Marysville Library during its meeting from 1 to 2 p.m. today at the library, 6120 Grove St.

The group raises money for library programs. Members must be 11 or older.

Mountlake Terrace

Meeting offers Medicare info

Information on the new Medicare prescription drug program, which starts next year, will be presented in a program at 12:30 p.m. Friday at Mountlake Terrace Senior Center, 5605 235th St. SW.

Mukilteo

YMCA to close for maintenance

The Mukilteo Family YMCA will be closed from Sept. 5 to 11 for maintenance. The building will reopen at 5 a.m. Sept. 12. During the closure, members may use any of the YMCA of Snohomish County branches.

Stanwood

Dog teams will play ball at farm

Twenty dog teams will converge on a Stanwood-area farm to play flyball at Dogfest 2005 this weekend.

Flyball is a sport for teams of four dogs each. They run a 102-foot course over four hurdles, retrieve a ball shot into the air from a spring-loaded box, then turn around and run back over the hurdles, all in less than 20 seconds.

The event starts at 10 a.m. Saturday and Sunday at Tazer Valley Farm, 7314 300th St. NW.
