SEATTLE – A Poulsbo couple welcomed quintuplets – four girls and a boy – shortly after 9 a.m. Thursday.
Courtnee Stevenson, 31, gave birth by Caesarean section at Swedish Medical Center in Seattle with husband Mike standing nearby.
First out was daughter Aniston at 153/4 inches long and 3 pounds, 12 ounces.
Her siblings, in order, are:
* Weston Nickel, 151/4 inches, 3 pounds.
* Belle Lydia, 15 inches, 3 pounds, 3 ounces.
* Camilee Rose, 151/4 inches, 2 pounds, 12 ounces.
* Scarlett, 151/4 inches, 3 pounds, 2 ounces.
The quints are the first born in Western Washington, and the second in the state.
“Everything was great,” said Jim Reynolds, a family friend. “They’re all pink, they’re all doing really well.”
They were taken to the neonatal intensive care unit, where they will stay for about a month until they fully develop. Courtnee carried the babies to 31 weeks gestation, about five weeks shy of a full nine-month term.
“They let her kiss them before they took them away,” Reynolds said.
Stevenson had spent the previous four months in bed or the hospital. She became pregnant with the quintuplets after fertility treatments. She and her husband already have a 3-year-old daughter.
The family currently lives in a mobile home. Their church, the New Life Church in Silverdale, has begun raising money for a larger house, which volunteers plan to build.
