For most of the summer, she was Jane Doe. Now, police know her real name.
The remains of Lori Ruth Emr-Knowles were found June 11 off a gravel road east of Granite Falls. Emr-Knowles, 49, was identified through fingerprints and her medical history, the sheriff’s office reported.
How she died and why her body, partially covered by trash, was found halfway up a mountain road remains a mystery.
Emr-Knowles was last known to live in the Bothell area but was apparently homeless near the time of her death. She hadn’t been reported missing because of her transient lifestyle, sheriff’s deputy David Hayes said.
Records show that Emr-Knowles owned a house in Snohomish in the late 1990s and lived in various locations in the county.
A couple collecting shell casings spotted the woman’s body under a plastic swimming pool and microwave box a little more than a mile up Mount Pilchuck Road.
Sheriff’s major crimes detectives have been tracking down every clue, including identifying the man who dumped garbage near where Emr-Knowles was found.
No arrests have been made in the case.
Anyone with information about Emr-Knowles is asked to contact detective Kelly Willoth through the sheriff’s tip line at 425-388-3845.
