SNOHOMISH — Jeff Sax, a Republican and former Snohomish County Councilman, announced Thursday he will run for a seat in the state House of Representatives.
Sax is challenging incumbent Rep. John Lovick, D-Mill Creek, in the 44th Legislative District.
Sax won a seat on the County Council in 2001 by defeating the incumbent councilman, Dave Somers. Four years later, when the two faced off in a rematch, he lost. Somers is now the county executive.
Sax, 56, a Snohomish resident, later worked for the city of Monroe as the economic development manager. He is currently employed by Windermere Real Estate in Lake Stevens.
In his announcement, he said, “I am a proven quantity. My record of public service has been marked by a passion to fight for the public and stand up to powerful interests.”
The candidate filing period is in May and the primary election is Aug. 7.
