REDMOND – Republican Dino Rossi ended his bid for governor this morning.
“A few minutes ago I called Christine Gregoire to congratulate her on her victory,” he told reporters gathered at his campaign headquarters in Redmond.
Gregoire is leading Rossi today by a margin of 53.5 percent to 46.5 percent. She is ahead in 15 counties, seven more than in 2004 when she defeated Rossi by 133 votes in the closest race for governor in state history.
Rossi didn’t postulate on why he lost but said in reviewing the results “it looks like we’re not going to be able to make up that gap.”
He said he plans to return to working in the business world and “has not intention at this time” of running for political office again.
Gregoire is scheduled to speak to reporters at noon.
