50 years ago (1956)
Sophomore class officers were chosen this week at Everett High School. They were Gary Hansen, president; Sharon Akers, vice-president; Don Berg, secretary, and Bob Fitch, treasurer. Ray Larson was their adviser.
There was a new look on the waterfront. Scott Paper Co. had recently erected a huge neon sign atop the digester building. The letters, six to nine feet tall, were rose colored against a blue background. The overall weight of the sign was six tons and it included 1,184 feet of neon tubing.
25 years ago (1981)
A tugboat that sank over the weekend at the Everett yacht basin was scheduled to be raised. Coast Guard Chief Robert Sanderson said authorities did not know what caused the 65-foot tug “Prosper” to go down.
Darlene Gordon of Stanwood received the 1981 Creative Recognition Award from the National Association for Creative Children and Adults given to 11 elementary teachers around the world. The third-grade teacher was nominated by her aide, Beverly Soler, who was amazed at the things Gordon came up with to aid learning.
