50 years ago (1964)
Pianist Jimmy Lofling, son of Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Lofling, was one of four winners in a talent contest sponsored by the independent Order of Foresters, Court Commencement Bay of Tacoma on Saturday. This was the second year he won for playing the piano. A student at South Junior High School, he was a piano student of Virgie McDonald.
Lowell School was getting ready for its Spring Fun-A-Fair. John Norberg, Boy Scout leader would be in charge of parking assisted by Scouts Sam Reynolds, Tom Kickland, Burrell Brown, David Lauer, Danny O’Brien, Ralph Schardt and Garth Wright.
25 years ago (1989)
An informational meeting on the upcoming Stanwood school bus levy and on state plans for area highway improvements would take place in the high school auditorium. The meeting was sponsored the Stanwood and Camano Island chambers of commerce. Superintendent Ray Reid would discuss the bus situation.
Playing at the Olympic Theater in Arlington was “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels,” starring Steve Martin and Michael Caine and John Candy in the comedy “Who’s Harry Crumb?” The double feature started tonight at 7:30. Tickets were $2.50.
