The Snohomish County Library bookmobile arrived in Lowell to serve Gloria Dodele, Vicki Karls and Roy Pedigo. Gertrude Shock was the bookmobile supervisor, Doris Hawkins the clerk and Wayne Brooks the driver.
The Flying Tigers took the city Little League championship. Coached by Tony Dyre the team consisted of Mike Dyre, Chris Dyre, Buzzie Dyre, Ozzie Dyre, Corky Barton, Carl Winsor, Doug Cedarbloom, Ricky Strom, Norris Sjostrom, Bob Blofield, Jay Klemp, Brent Ingram, Jimmie Flateboe, Mike Reynolds and Mike Murray.
25 years ago (1980)
Hillis Homes Inc. of Everett, the state’s largest builder of single family homes, was sold to a Dallas-based construction company. The new subsidiary of the billion-dollar Centrex Corp. would retain the name and leadership of Larry Hillis. Hillis Homes, based at 826 Broadway, was building 150 new homes from Marysville to Federal Way.
Lakes Stevens School District administrators were soliciting suggestions for a name for the high school’s new stadium. Those with suggestions were to submit them in writing to James Hougardy at the administration office. The district would decide upon a name later in the month.
