50 years ago (1964)
Celebrating their grand opening tomorrow and the next day was Allen’s Bakery in the Anderson Shopping Center. Free coffee, doughnuts and balloons would be handed out. With their “Cake-O-Rama” customers could see their cakes iced on the spot.
David Laverne English was a year old today. His brother Joseph Melvin would celebrate his second birthday in two days. Older brother Dan was 5. They were the sons of Mr. and Mrs. Laverne M. English of Snohomish.
25 years ago (1989)
David Pugmire, 12, of Snohomish, intently studied his compass while taking part in a skills exercise. He was one of 1,000 Scouts and leaders in a tent city on Ebey Island just across the river from the city last night. Scout executive Craig Reide said the “Camporall” was a centennial event to show quality Scout activities.
After more than four years of planning a ground-breaking ceremony tomorrow would mark the construction of a unique child-care center at Everett Community College. Mary King, coordinator of EvCC’s Family Life and Early Childhood Education Department, said it could open as early as late March.
