LYNNWOOD — A man fired a gun at a Snohomish County sheriff’s deputy Wednesday north of Lynnwood, setting off a manhunt near Highway 99.
The sheriff’s office responded to a report of a stolen vehicle in the 14800 block of Highway 99 at about 12:45 p.m. As a deputy approached, the man shot at the deputy with what the sheriff’s office believes was a handgun, Lt. Jason Toner said.
The deputy returned fire. The suspect fled. The deputy was not injured. It was unclear if the suspect was hurt.
Deputies were searching the area Wednesday with a police dog team and a helicopter. The sheriff’s office asked local residents to stay in their homes.
Several residents called authorities to report a man jumping fences who matched the suspect’s description.
The man was still at large late Wednesday afternoon.
