EDMONDS — Two people were questioned Monday in Snohomish County in connection with possible gun-related threats.
First, in the morning, police arrested an Edmonds-Woodway High School student after reported threats of violence at the school Monday morning.
Detectives reportedly found a BB gun after concerned families reported the threats, according to the Edmonds Police Department. The student, 16, was booked into juvenile jail for investigation of felony harassment.
Additional Edmonds police officers were patrolling the campus, as well.
In a statement, Mayor Mike Nelson said, “This is a perfect example of how gun violence in our community can be prevented when we work together.”
“Thanks to the quick action of our community of taking the threat and picture of a realistic looking gun seriously, we will never have to know if this student would have acted with his parents’ unlocked handgun, located in their house, to commit a senseless act of violence, which has been all too common,” Nelson said.
And in Everett, officers questioned a person reported to have a gun after Everett Community College was put into lockdown in the afternoon.
Police received a report of a man pointing a gun at cars at a nearby Starbucks, the same one where Officer Dan Rocha was shot and killed in March.
“Lock doors,” the college wrote in a 1:08 p.m. tweet. “Close blinds and turn out lights.”
But the person didn’t have a gun and the 911 caller didn’t return calls from police, Everett officer Kerby Duncan said. No arrest was made.
Correction: A previous version of this story reported a person was arrested in Everett. The person was questioned by officers but not taken into custody.
