HOUSTON – A plastic surgeon accused of running over two television producers and leaving them bleeding on the roadside because he was intoxicated was sentenced to two years in prison.
Mark Douglas Gilliland, 53, will also pay a $10,000 fine under a sentencing agreement reached Wednesday with prosecutors following his conviction Monday on two charges of intoxication assault.
Both sides agreed that Gilliland had alcohol, a sleeping pill, a diet drug and an antidepressant in his system when his car struck the British women as they were walking to meet friends for dinner in March 2005.
Joanna Moore’s skull was fractured, and Amanda Holland’s jaw and ankle were broken.
Prosecutor Warren Diepraam said Gilliland didn’t stop to help them because he knew he was too intoxicated to be driving.
He will probably lose his state medical license for life, Diepraam said.
