DALLAS — A student was taken into a custody when a teacher known for his love of music died after being stabbed today at a Texas high school.
Todd R. Henry, 50, was a music therapist at John Tyler High School, according to his brother, Jody Henry. The victim was an “accomplished and respected guitarist,” Jody Henry told The Associated Press.
A police spokesman in Tyler, Texas, about 90 miles southeast of Dallas, said a juvenile was in custody.
Officer Don Martin referred further questions to Angela Jenkins, a spokeswoman for the high school. Jenkins did not immediately return messages left by the AP.
Tyler Independent School District Supt. Randy Reid told the Tyler Morning-Telegraph that the attack took place in a classroom. Reid declined to release the student’s name.
A statement this afternoon on the Tyler school district’s Web site said students at the high school, which had been locked down, had been dismissed. No reason was given for releasing the students early from the high school campus.
