TULALIP — A Sunnyside man may have pushed his luck — and shoplifting skills — a little too far at the Tulalip Wal-Mart.
Johnny Rodriguez, 19, grabbed a computer, walked out the front door and loaded the computer in his Jeep parked outside last December, according to charging papers filed Monday in Snohomish County Superior Court.
No one stopped him.
He went back into the store and helped himself to another computer.
No one stopped him.
Third time is charm, right?
Not for Rodriguez, according to prosecutors.
Store security had been watching as Rodriguez allegedly hauled the second computer outside. They stopped him as he was leaving the store with the third computer.
Rodriguez first gave the cops a false name. He later admitted he lied about his name because he had warrants for his arrest, Snohomish County deputy prosecutor Lisa Paul wrote in court documents.
Deputies confronted Rodriguez about the two computers that the store security guards watched him take. He admitted to taking the computers and also told them he had a third in his Jeep, court papers said.
He agreed to let deputies search the Jeep. Inside were the computers, all valued at $1,734.
Turns out Wal-Mart hadn’t been Rodriguez’s first stop.
Police also found nearly $2,000 worth of clothes in the Jeep.
He’d helped himself to clothing at Ralph Lauren and Converse at the nearby outlet mall, Paul wrote.
The clothes were still on the hangers, along with the price tags. Rodriguez didn’t have any receipts.
Rodriguez was charged Monday with second-degree theft.
