For a few hours Tuesday, a majority of the state’s congressional delegation found itself spread throughout coach and first class on Alaska Flight 4 from Seattle to Washington, D.C.
If you had been on board the 8:40 a.m. flight you would have seen six of the state’s 11-member federal contingent – five representatives and a senator.
Rep. Jay Inslee landed in first class, the only one with a seat up front.
Back in coach, Rep. Norm Dicks squirmed in his aisle seat, likely plotting ways tojoin Inslee or get him to swap seats. Congresional seniority doesn’t carry the same weight at 30,000 feet as it does on the appropriations committee.
U.S. Sen. Patty Murray sat in a center seat on the emergency exit row and looked to be working, my guess, on another floor speech extolling the virtues of Boeing. BTW, this flight was on a Boeing aircraft.
Farther back and scattered about the cabin were Reps. Brian Baird, Dave Reichert and Cathy McMorris Rodgers.
This unplanned occurrence stirred plenty of whispers among the other passengers. Not sure if anyone actually lobbied their legislators. Keep an eye out for interesting earmarks.
