Ireland: Police scoop up IRA cash
Police have blown open an Irish Republican Army money-laundering operation but cannot confirm whether cash worth nearly $5 million seized in raids came from a Belfast bank robbery, the government said Friday. Detectives brought charges against one suspected IRA member and interrogated three other people – including a man allegedly caught burning a pile of currency in his backyard. Another man walked into a Cork police station and handed over a bag containing $330,000 in British notes. The man said he’d been given the money to hide by an arrested suspect.
