Shot blocked
My aim is true: An off-duty Colorado sheriff’s deputy confronted two robbery suspects who then fired on him. The deputy fired back, and one of his bullets lodged itself in the barrel of one suspect’s gun, a shot investigators called “one in a billion” (Page A2).
So, yes, one way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with freakishly good aim.
Scoop of vanilla, please: Presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump has announced Indiana Gov. Mike Pence as his running mate (Page A6).
GOP leaders praised the news as “just the kind of safe and totally uninspiring move we hope to see more of from our candidate.”
Color TV: The lack of diversity among Academy Award nominees earlier this year that tagged it with #OscarsSoWhite, paled even more against this week’s Emmy nominations, with 21 actors of color among the 98 nominees (Page C6).
Considering the wealth of quality shows on TV now, and movie producers’ inability to make little more than sequels and superhero flicks, maybe that hashtag ought to read #OscarsSoWhat.
