No love for the Bug

No love for a BugWhere have all the flowers gone? Volkswagen announced a new design for its iconic Beetle, giving the 73-year-old model a flatter roof, narrower windows and a less bulbous shape, to make it more appealing to men. Gone also is the dashboard flower vase.

Unfortunately, the bud vase was one of the few things on the Beetle that wasn’t prone to mechanical failure.

Have we told you about walking to school in the snow? A poll of Americans between the ages of 18 and 24 found that a majority think they’ll have a tougher time buying a house and saving for retirement than their parents did and only a quarter expect things to be easier from them than it was for the previous generation.

It’s clear we’ve placed a heavy burden on the younger generation, expecting them to raise a family, buy a home and save for retirement on top of demanding that they shell out for big-screen plasma TVs, smart phones, new cars and the iPad 2.

Trouble, a Milton Bradley game: Seattle Mariner left fielder Milton Bradley continued his relatively hot hitting, going 2 for 3 last night in a loss to Detroit. Bradley has taken to wearing earplugs during the game, whether at home or on the road.

It’s not the catcalls he finds the most disheartening but that fans cheer louder for that moose than anyone else on the team.
