Hatch and Caparas tied for lead

EVERETT — Kamiak’s Chris Hatch fired a 3-over 75 to tie for the individual lead and help the Knights clinch the district team title on the first day of the 4A Wesco distict tournament at Legion Memorial Golf Course.

Rudy Caparas of Lynnwood also recorded a 75 to join Hatch at the top of the leaderboard, while Snohomish’s Ethan Casto and Jackson’s Kyle Cornett trail the co-leaders by two shots.

The Knights’ Brian Moon, Steven Cabanday and Tyler Singer each shot a 78, among 12 golfers tied for fifth, and Matt Kornegay finished at 8-over as Kamiak edged Snohomish by four strokes for team honors.

After play on Monday, 37 of 49 players remain for today’s final round. The top 13 finishers qualify for the 4A state tournament, which will take place at Camas Meadows Golf Club on May 21-22.
