Prep boys basketball: Mount Vernon rallies to beat Snohomish

SNOHOMISH — Snohomish saw a six-point lead go away in the fourth quarter as it fell 52-49 to Mt. Vernon in a non-league opener for both teams Tuesday at the Snohomish gym.

“It was intense,” Snohomish coach Len Bone said. “There’s a lot of learning in a close game like that.

“Mount Vernon does a good job.”

Reed Pecha had four 3-points goals and led the Panthers with 15 points.

Shorecrest 77, Everett 51: At Everett, Everett’s Flynn Mattson led all scorers with 26 points, but it wasn’t enough as Shorecrest crusied to a 26-point victory over Everett. Shorecrest used a big run at the end of the first quarter and throughout the second quarter to build its lead. Junior Chibuogwu led Shorecrest with 17 and Ryan Dodge chipped in 11.

Kamiak 48, Archbishop Murphy 45: At Everett, Andrew Makori made a decisive 15-foot jump shot to give Kamiak a one-point lead late in the game. Archbishop Murphy’s 3-point attempt with one second remaining didn’t fall, giving Kamiak the non-conference win. In the back-and-forth game, Kamiak’s Jared Houghtaling hauled in 12 rebounds and led all scorers with 23 points. Casey Wagner had 14 points, eight rebounds and two steals for Archbishop Murphy.

Lynden Christian 50, Lakewood 43: At Marysville, Lakewood’s big men got in foul trouble in the second quarter and Lynden Christian was able to take advantage, outscoring Lakewood by 11 that period. Lynden Christian’s David Doherty led all scores with 16. Lakewood’s Jordan Stauffer had 11. Only six players played for Lynden Christian.
