Prep hot tickets: Jan. 15-Jan. 20

Here are some intriguing prep events to keep an eye on this week

Here are four local prep matchups to keep an eye on this week:

1. Boys basketball: Lynnwood at Meadowdale, 7:15 p.m. Tuesday. These two teams have had up-and-down seasons so far, but are currently hanging around in the middle of the pack in Wesco 3A with their sights set on playoff berths. The Royals (6-8 overall, 2-4 conference) started the season well but have lost six of their past seven games. The Mavericks (6-7, 2-3) haven’t won or lost more than two straight contests this season.

2. Boys wrestling: Everett at Arlington, 7 p.m. Thursday Once again, these two teams are battling for Wesco 3A North supremacy. A possible 160-pound bout between the Seagulls’ Riley Bennett, 10th in the latest washingtonwrestlingreport.com 3A rankings, and the Eagles’ Sam Rush could be one of the event’s top matchups.

3. Boys swimming and diving: Snohomish, Glacier Peak at Lake Stevens, 3:15 p.m. Thursday. All three teams are enjoying quality seasons. The Vikings’ Carter Walles (200-yard freestyle, 200 individual medley, 100 freestyle, 500 freestyle, 100 backstroke), Alejandro Flores (100 butterfly, 100 breaststroke), and 200 medley, 200 freestyle and 400 freestyle relay teams have posted qualifying times for the 4A state meet, as have the Grizzlies’ Matthew King (50 freestyle, 100 freestyle), Zach Cermak (50 freestyle, 100 butterfly), Andrew Meneses (100 freestyle), 200 freestyle relay team and 400 freestyle relay team. The Panthers’ Johan Schedin (200 freestyle, 100 butterfly, 100 freestyle) has posted qualifying times for the 3A state meet.

4. Girls basketball: Lake Stevens at Glacier Peak, 7:15 p.m. Friday. The Vikings (11-2 overall, 7-0 Wesco 4A) are looking like a strong bet to win the conference title, and the Grizzlies (8-5, 6-1) have separated themselves a bit from Mariner and Jackson for the No. 2 spot. Lake Stevens beat Glacier Peak by nine points earlier in the season, which is actually one of the Vikings’ closest contests so far in terms of margin of victory.
