Prep tennis: Snohomish hands Everett its first loss

EVERETT — Four matches, five days, and the chance of precipitation. That is the Everett boys tennis team’s schedule for this week.

If Everett had hopes of staying undefeated it came to a halt Monday, when it lost to powerhouse Snohomish, which propelled to a 6-0 record in its convincing 5-2 victory.

“Truly I thought we could play with them, even though I knew they were tough,” Everett (4-1) head coach Tim Boyd said. “They are a good, good team. They took the (Number) one and (Number) two doubles matches which clearly was the deciding factor.”

Although the tough loss came at an even tougher time with games today, Wednesday and Friday, Boyd said that his players are eager to get back on the court and prove exactly what kind of team they are, with Boyd naming his players “a great group of competitors.”

Everett singles player Dan Snyder played a controlled game, defeating Trevor Shields 6-3, 7-5. In doubles competition, Stephen Bellrichard and Ben Dale rallied from a 0-6 first set to overcome Andrew Carr and Peter Luangrath 6-4, 7-5 in the remaining sets to take Everett’s only doubles victory.
