Seahawks trade up in 3rd round to pick Kansas State WR Tyler Lockett

After waiting longer than any team to make their first pick in the 2015 draft, the Seahawks didn’t wait long to pick again, trading up in the third round in order to draft Kansas State receiver/return specialist Tyler Lockett just six picks after taking DE Frank Clark late in the second round. Seattle picked Lockett with the 69th pick, which originally belonged to Washington.

Lockett, who is listed at 5-11, 175, was a consensus All-American as a an all-purpose/kick returner. He was also the Big 12 special teams player of the year each of the past two seasons. The pick fits a huge need for the Seahawks, not just because Paul Richardson’s knee injury leaves them thin at receiver, but also because they were so unsettled at both return spots last season.

To get that pick, the Seahawks sent their third-rounder (95th overall), the fourth-rounder they got from New Orleans in the Max Unger/Jimmy Graham trade (112), a fifth (167) and a sixth (181).

Barring trades, the Seahawks are now done for the day, and will pick six times tomorrow: 130, 134, 170, 209, 214 and 248.
