Hempfest organizers reach agreement with Seattle

SEATTLE -- A settlement reached between the city of Seattle and organizers of Hempfest will allow the pro-marijuana event to be held at Myrtle Edwards Park in August.
Seattle City Attorney's Office spokeswoman Kimberly Mills said Tuesday the city will issue a permit for the festival scheduled for Aug. 19-21. Meanwhile, organizers agreed to drop their lawsuit against the city.
Hempfest organizers sued in U.S. District Court in Seattle last month to obtain a permit for the 2011 event. They said planned construction of a bike and pedestrian overpass at the waterfront park interfered with their event.
Mills said the city realized construction wouldn't interfere with this year's event when it got project bids last week.
Hempfest draws thousands of people each year.
